The largest carnivore in the island has just missed his prey...

The Fosa (Cryptoprocta ferox) is the largest carnivore in Madagascar. This animal is sometimes described as a half dog-half cat and lives in any different types of forest. They feed mainly on lemurs and other animals in the forest such as birds, rodents, and snakes. Since they do not have a regular place for sleeping, they are active both days and nights.

Most of the time they are solitary, but it is only during the mating season that many of them can be seen together in the forest as one female that is in eostrus can attract many males. One of their main features is that they have an arboreal skill which helps them catch their prey.

To see the Fosa in the forest, it is a quite challenging expedition, so come and try it.
